And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
Genesis 9:12–17 (NIV84)
We are hearing a lot of talk these days about The Great Reset, which is, in fact, happening as powerful men and women seek to re-engineer the life and culture of our great country. However, there is one who can reset the whole earth and everything in it. This is exactly what happened when God sent the great flood. Though many consider it a religious myth and say that the stories of a great flood present in the lore of many people groups all over the world, is evidence that the biblical version is just another myth. But even though the stories of other cultures may differ in some details, the very fact that they exist is evidence that something happened long ago that has been worthy of recall by the generations.
In The Great Reset of the flood, God wiped every living creature off the face of the earth except Noah and his family. Before, people only ate vegetation, but now God gives us animals for food as well. Before the earth was watered by a mist of moisture and the river systems, now there would be rain. Before animals did not fear man, but now they would have a mortal fear of man. This would make things much more difficult and dangerous. Before the penalty for murder was for God to place a curse upon a person, now the penalty would be death, and this penalty also pertained to any animal that might kill a person. God restricts us from eating blood and gives blood a much more significant place in our value system, emphasizing that “the life is in the blood.” This would later be amplified in the sacrificial system of the Mosaic Law, and ultimately in the death of Jesus.
God set the rainbow in the sky as a reminder of his love and compassion toward us, and His promise to never again destroy the earth with a flood. The fact that the rainbow appears when there is rain must have been a great comfort to those early descendants of Noah. But God says it was to also remind Him of His promise. Not that God would ever forget, but that He would forever openly display the sign of His promise in the sky for all to see. Sadly, the use of the rainbow as a symbol of gay pride is one of the world’s greatest blasphemies ever.
God will never again reset the world with a flood, but the warning of Scripture is that the day is coming when He will reset the earth by fire, and this time the whole earth will be destroyed and re-created as the New Heavens and New Earth. No evil, not even the sin nature of man will survive, for we who are in Christ have already been reset and one day will receive a new immortal, incorruptible body. Those who are not in Christ will suffer destruction in the second death in hell.
My Prayer For You Today
that you will bear forth the promise of the rainbow in both word and deed. You have been reset.
